Surprise!

This past weekend surprised my best friend with a trip to a hot air balloon festival. She loves hot air balloons so I thought this would be a nice little surprise. We never get to hang out anymore since my time is very limited due to work and school. I was very glad that I could take her somewhere interesting and spend time together. She loved it!

When One Door Closes...

Hopefully another will open. This past year was crazy. I was more of a work-a-holic than I have ever been. I moved out of my house and in to my own apartment. It was convenient but now it is time to move back home. This is bitter sweet for me. It will be nice to save money, especially since I will be starting my student teaching (a full time job that does not pay). On the other hand, by moving home I don't feel as independent. I am trying to look at this as a stepping stone to the great things to come after I graduate. After graduation I plan to work on getting a degree in Fashion Design. I hope to either move to downtown Dallas, Florida, or maybe Corpus or Galveston. After my trip to the beach I really want to try living by the water and living on my own. I want so many things...guess I should work a little harder!

Hipster Vest

I have a new obsession with "thrifting"! I get a thrill out of going to a thrift store and finding something plain or  even ugly and getting and coming up with ways to completely change it. This project wasn't all that crazy. I found a Fossil vest (only three dollars) and cut off the sleeves. I love the grungy chic look of the outfit. :p

Feel the Pressure. Don't Rest. Keep Going

Last night at work was one of those nights that made me feel like a career in the fashion industry could be a possibility. I work at a clothing store and the District Manager was going to an appearance the next day. Our to-do list was a mile long. The moment I clocked in I was rushed to do mark downs, clean tables, refresh fixtures, and put back the clothes that had collected since the afternoon. The constant moving and rush to beat the clock was a thrill for me. I already love the feel of clothing in my hands and the sight of a display I create but this rush was something different. I have heard that that is what the industry is like, a constant list of things to do and people to please. Maybe that is the direction I should go...

Beach DIY

Before I left for Miami I knew that I needed a cute little beach cover up. The ones I found just didn't hold my attention. What is my solution when this happens? I make things myself! I took a little trip to the Thrift store and found a three dollar men's button up dress shirt. I cut off the neck and sleeves, sewed the raw edges, and added a cute little belt.

Every Day is a Fashion Show

I recently took a trip to Miami with my two best friends. I must say, it was one of the best trips I have ever taken. The atmosphere is completely different over there than it is here. In Miami everyone just wants to party. I finally understood the "Jersey Shore" lifestyle. My schedule everyday consisted of beach/shopping, eat, club, sleep. The clubs are open until five over there which is a big difference from two. My best friends and I joked, although we were somewhat serious, that the people at the front desk of the hotel must have thought that we were crazy little girls coming in and out at all times wearing many different outfits. We had shopping outfits, beach outfits, dinner outfits, and club outfits. This many outfit changes was a dream come true for any fashonista. Below I will post a timeline with the outfits of choice for the trip.

Day 1
Beach: A men's shirt that I turned in to a beach cover up.
Dinner: Maxi dress and arm cuff.
Night: Sparkly dress for Club Mansion

Day 2
Day: Shopping in South beach in high waisted shorts and a tribal print tank.
Night: Club set in a crop top and white skirt.

Day 3
Night: Passion Night Club in a simple black skirt and big chunky necklace.

Day 4

Night 4: Off the Hookah in a floral print body-con dress.

Modern Modesty?

When it comes to skirts it is the shorter the better correct? Well maybe not so much. Mini skirts are sexy for a night on the town but not always the classiest choice for a day in the city. So you don't want to feel like a girl from Little House on the Prarie with a skirt that covers those legs you worked so hard on? It's okay, there is a solution! Sheer maxi skirts are what's in this Spring, the perfect combination of sexy and classy. Now I should warn you that these ARE to be worn with shorts or a skirt underneath! The sheer fabric should only slightly expose those sexy legs, ya gotta leave something for the imagination ladies! These skirts can be found in all colors. Personally, I chose to try a brighter color for spring. If you are like me and feel the need to make everything yourself you can easily make one of these skirts as well.

A Lovely Little List

This week I decided to watch The Bucket List. Yes I know I am late, but it is better now than never right? I now see why so many people loved this movie; I found it quite inspirational. From the movie I was able to see that it is both the small and the big things that make your life meaningful. I know many say that is the small things that matter but honestly I think the big things make for great memories as well. I am 21 years young and I have big goals and dreams but I also appreciate small things like finding a penny on heads while walking throughout campus. In light of this movie I have decided to create my own bucket list with items big and small.

1. Swim with dolphins
2. Have an amazing backyard.
3. Visit Canada
4. Volunteer in another country.
5. Create my own clothing collection.
6. Learn to cook.
7. Dance on a dance team for a professional sports team.
8. Get my "free spirit" back.
9. Rescue my own puppy.
10. Graduate from college with at least a 3.5.
11. Learn to ride a motorcycle.

One Man's Trash is Another Man's Treasure

Lately I have read plenty of blogs and seen picture posts of amazing thrift store finds. I used to always go to the thrift stores and get random things to reconstruct when I was little, but now I just don't have the patience. I am going to make it my goal to go to the thrift store that is right behind me and search for a couple of awesome finds and then jazz them up to create my own stylish thrifty treasure. I know that it probably is not a good idea to go in looking for specific items but I just can't help myself! I know that I want to look for a denim button up, "mom jeans" to make in to shorts, a funky purse to stud up, and a vintage piece. Now to find the time to go...

Where did it Come From and Why is it Back: High-Waisted Pants

I think it is safe to say that most of us think of the eighties when we think of high-waist pants. Surprisingly, this trend dates all the way back to the 1940’s.

1940’s: Before this time era women did not wear pants, only skirts were accepted. Because of the war, women were needed in the workforce and wearing tight skirts, although they were cute and fashionable, were not safe or practical for factory work.

1950’s: At this time pants were socially acceptable for women’s everyday wear. The pants became slightly more fashionable, shortened their length to make Capri pants, or “Clam Diggers” as my grandmother calls them. As far as shorts go, the high waist was seen in bathing suits and Pinup Girls.

1980’s: The first thing that pops in to my head when I think of high-waisted jeans is Kelly Kapowski from “Saved by the Bell”. Her thin, yet healthy, figure made the jeans look stylish, a little modest, yet sexy.

Today: Now they are back. How do we feel about it? It seems as if it is a hit or miss for people. Some love the trend and can pull it off with confidence. On the other hand, others seem to feel awkward in them and think that they are unflattering. Personally I have yet to build up the confidence to try them; my cousin wears them with confidence and looks amazing in them. What do you think? Here to stay or push it away?

GO MAVS!

I know this is late but I still really like the dress. Last summer the Dallas Mavericks won the 2011 Championship. Free tshirts were being given away but all that was available was an XL. I decided to make a spirit dress to wear to a watching party that I attended. I hope to make a spirit dress for my school soon.

To This:

It has been awhile...

My life has gotten a little crazy and I continue to fill my late a little too high. Even though I feel stressed frequently, I have to have a crazy life to keep me going.
As far as sewing and crafts go, this pretty cool kid got me a dress form for Christmas. I have always wanted one and now I actually feel like I may have at least somewhat of a future in fashion. That has been one of the best presents I have ever received. Now if only I had more time to use it. :(
I have started dancing again and I have a new dance family that I love. Even though I have said that I will not dance anymore I can't seem to stop. I think I have finally found the styles that I love and that I am strongest in.
